This program is designed to equip the student with the fundamental knowledge, correct operational habits, essential skills, and the proper attitude for survival on our highways. From successful completion of the program, the student will be issued a STUDENT CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION, MV-285. This certificate will allow them to drive at night when they attain the age of 17, after they convert their class DJ license to a class D license. It also makes possible a reduction in the cost of your added insurance premium, when applicable. In this program, the student receives 24 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of observation and 6 hours of actual behind the wheel instruction. Bells Auto Driving School contracts with High Schools to teach the behind the wheel instruction. THIS MINIMUM TIME REQUIREMENT MUST BE MET IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH MOTOR VEHICLE REGULATIONS. The goal of behind the wheel instruction is to teach safe driving techniques. In the time we will be working with the student behind the wheel, we cannot hope to satisfactorily prepare them for their New York State Road Test, or make them an accomplished driver. All students must have a New York State Motor Vehicle Department Learners Permit in order that they may obtain adequate out of school practice.
